Ford Escape losing power while driving.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

While driving my 2011 Ford Escape, it loses power
when you try to accelerate really fast or sometimes
just when you push the gas after stopping then
turning. The radio shuts down, the heat cuts out
and the abs and traction control light blinks/dings.
The steering whell becomes stiff, and hard to turn
then when you turn it back in clicks. We have
already replaced the battery, checked the plugs, put
in a new sensor. I have have taken this to two
different places already and nobody can figure out
the reason why it’s doing it.

Have you made sure it is not something to do with the alternator? Earlier this year my alternator blew out and my battery light, my abs lights, and I think a few other lights came on. When your alternator isn't functioning properly, your car will try to run solely on battery power.

Thanks, just after posting this, the alternator went! The vehicle lost power very quickly and we barely got it to the garage! Getting a new one put in in a couple days, as it is a 5 hour job. So hopefully this fixes my problem. Usually the alternator goes rarely quickly but mine was going over several weeks, we think it was a loose wire inside of the alternator, which finally snapped.

Glad you got a lead! Hopefully it does fix everything! May your costs be low and your driving be smooth!

This is not an alternator issue. My Escape is doing the same thing and because it is difficult to reproduce and the codes are not stored, the dealership cannot find the issue. Any other ideas?
