4 Wheel Drive

I'm pretty sure your Ford Escape is full time All Wheel Drive. Therefore no need to engage anything as your car will automatically transfer power to different wheels depending on road conditions.

No I have a switch for my 2008 escape that engages the rear wheels I'm new to this site lots of info here

If you want to make sure, just go the the rear of the Escape and look underneath. If you see a differential and a drive shaft going to each wheel you have All Wheel Drive. If you do not see these you do not.

When I did my research about fords intelligent 4wd I was impressed. The system is always in front wheel drive mode so the it is fuel saving, the moment a tire slips or loses traction, the computer activates the 4wd. It's really neat, I've seen a couple of videos online of an escape slipping in mud with the front wheels only moving then seconds later all 4 wheels are going.

It does not appear as if this one is all wheel drive.

no...no rear differnetial

I had the same problem with my 2012 Ford Escape xlt if it doesn't have 4x4 on the car and there is no notification on the dash the your intelligent 4x4 is in you most likely have an awd of fwd when I found out I didn't have 4x4 I looked under my car and I have rear differentials and rear axels so I have an awd... Which sucks because I tow boats and jetskiies for a living and I can tow some boats so I'm loosing money!

My escape said "4 wheel drive off" when I started it. It says 4 wheel drive on the signage. I believe it awd??? So confused. Oh and no book
