will not idle at initial startup

Asked by jester158 Dec 05, 2014 at 05:56 PM about the 2004 Cadillac DeVille Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Rough idle at startup car will shut off unless you press gas pedal, runs great on road and
still has a little rough engine when stopped at a traffic light. Could it be a choke sensor or
other sensor. Check engine is now on !

check for vac leaks, but you should probably clean your throttle body. idle air control is also suspect. have the computer scanned for the codes that the light is telling you about. autozone will scan it for free.

Check the dirty air tube going from the PCV valve cover to the intake manifold right in back of the power steering pump. That hose leaks it cracks right on the bend. Too repair it you could use a spark plug rubber boot 90 bend. That will work well. Also check your break booster hose, and any other vacum hone on the car. Brake cleaner is ok as well. Another thing, If your spark plug tube gaskets leak and oil gets in the spark plug channel it could short the coil. Have them with the valve cover gaskets replaced.
