premium gas or unleaded

Asked by James Jul 20, 2019 at 02:04 PM about the 2001 BMW 5 Series 525i Sedan RWD

Question type: General

I inherited the car from my sister. She said the car has been run on premium
gas from the day one she bought new. Now that I have it, am I supposed to
keep feeding the car with same gas type, or could I switch to lower grade
without any adverse effect on engine?

I would use premium since this is a performance car designed for such fuel. You could try running regular but I think power will be down and you may have pinging and even reduced gas mileage.
