Like what kind of smoke? White smoke from the exhaust with a anti-freeze smell would be a blown head gasket. Oil smell from the exhaust, more of a blue smoke is burning oil getting into the cylinders from either valve seals, or past the piston rings, or a valve cover gasket leaking onto the engine exhaust manifolds.
