2004 BMW 330 CI ZHP with 150000 miles for 8k. Worth it?

Asked by Mar 19, 2017 at 05:34 PM about the 2004 BMW 3 Series 330Ci Coupe RWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Hey guys, I'm looking at grabbing a BMW 330 ZHP that has about 150000
miles on it. The vehicle history report looks great, as does the maintanence.
Should I be considering this car, or is it going to be a nightmare for me? And
the price of $8,000, is this worth it? I've seen some ZHP's go for as much as
$ 20,000 (but that's at like 50,000 miles).

I'm aware that cars with this sort of mileage are going to have some parts fail
within the first year of owning them, but it also seems to me that BMW's can
live to 300k if taken care of properly. If you think my yearly maintanence cost
would stay around 2-3k per year, it's worth it to me, as I had a ZHP when I
was younger and I really miss it.

Note: As mentioned, I'm familiar with owning a BMW. Both my Dad and I are regular BMW owners for the last 20 years. So I don't need a "what it's like to own a BMW" answer, more just a "am I insane" answer.

p.s.2 I'll also take ANY advice on questions I should be asking the seller (such as what parts I need to make sure have been replaced recently).

ZHP's are THE E46 you want to purchase besides the M3. If the maintenance history is good, then go for it. You already know, that doing some of your own work, will help keep costs down. You will average around $1500-2K a year. check out this link....http://www.bimmerfest.com/wiki/index.php?title=BMW_E46

Part that were probably replaced already, all parts associated with the Cooling system, Control arm bushings, valve cover gasket, spark plugs, fluid changes, CCV, DISA valve, upper intake boots, motor mounts, suspension parts, like Struts and shocks. bushings, etc.
