Asked by Albryt49 Jul 04, 2019 at 03:10 PM about the 2004 BMW 3 Series 325i Sedan RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 325I automatic trans. I want to eventually replace the engine as it
is pushing close to 240,000. What would be the biggest/ newest year 3 series
engine I could put into it?

Post this on a BMW forum but I would rebuild the engine you have and include some performance improvements.

40,130

An engine from a 2005 330i or a 2006 330ci. You will need to perform some reprograming I would suppose as well. Plus you would want to replace your brakes as the 330's had larger brakes.
