convertible top won't open

Asked by Pappaman Nov 28, 2016 at 04:24 PM about the 2001 BMW 3 Series 325Ci Convertible RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2001 BMW 325 ci had the top going up and down perfectly with zero
defects until one day when I pushed the button to put the top down nothing
happened. The windows didn't go down the top did not unlatch , nothing ,no
sound , no movement. and the indicator light on the switch panel is turning
orange when the button is depressed to open the top. pushing the close
button does nothing , no red light or anything. The trunk shelf is up and
secured ,(that's not the problem.) Now the real kicker , I have $400.00 worth
of new rear suspension parts I sorely need installed NOW but I can't because
the top mounts to the rear shock are under the convertible rear deck that lifts
up to store the top when down. PLEASE someone HELP. How can I Get this
thing working , any ideas? Pappaman

checking the fuses was the first thing I did. I have been working on cars for 45 years . but thanx , sometimes people overlook the simplest solutions. I checked all the fuses and that was not the problem.

Use a multi-meter and trace the power out. Switch, relay and the motor.
