I just bought a 2000 BMW 323i - the accelerator pedal is firm - is this normal ?

With out feeling it for myself its hard to say but BMW does use quite firm pedals. Because BMW now used a drive by wire system in there cars no more throttle cables. They had to put some feed back in the pedal so people wouldn't feel the difference and thus a stiff pedal. Hope that helps if you can try another BMW and see if it's similar.
