How Long Does Engine Last on 92 325i

Asked by Ankur Jun 05, 2010 at 03:42 AM about the 1992 BMW 3 Series 325i Sedan RWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I am planning to buy an 325i but due to a low budget i have to pick from a 92 325i
which is in good condition and runs smooth, but the engine has 200k miles on it. I
would like to know if the car would run for another 10k miles as thats all i need it for
as i only need for a few months.

Thanks for your responds. ..

why do you need a 92 3-series????? first off bmw motors(while being great motors) require a lot of maintenance! about every 100k miles water pump needs redone just for one example. this is what i was told from a bmw dealership too. car could make it another 10k miles but it might also take a crap in 200 miles. that high of mileage its too unpredictable in ANY car. for the money youre going to spend go but a decent american car this time around and save the extra cash towards your next bmw after the POS youre putting 10k miles on craps out.

My friend, that car is a very solid car. Word of advise, if your mechanically inclined(like myself) this car will work out for you, if not buy a newer BMW or a cheaper domestic car. I have a 1996 BMW 318.is 5 spd with 104,720 miles on her. the car is capable of lasting 500,000 with proper maintenance. The reason BMW st8 6's don't last as long is because people beat on them and then later can't maintain them.Good luck in your purchase.

that'll go another 100k and much more if its been looked after, the arse end would drop off it before the engine give up. people who never owned a bmw or know nothing about cars just relate BMWs to normal everyday cars like ford, renault, pugeot where 100k and they're bolloxed bmw are properly engineered cars built to last I have owned many and never has one let me down

I have owned a 95 525i with similar engine (yours is VANOS right?) I bought ir with 195k and sold it with 235k miles and it was still running strong, no leaks or burning of oil. The only things I had to replace was the fuel pump and alternator during ownership.

Which model are you talking about ( E30 or the E36 ). I owned both of them and seriously they both ran over 250.000 km. Check the engine if this is wet because of oil or maybe water. Then try to find out if this is replaceble. Remember BMW is easy to buy, taking care of it is expensive. I do drive BMW E46 Touring ( Alpina B10 ). I prefer the E30 325i. If you buy the car you'll find out,.......you will never drive another car.

I own--- e30 w/203k, e36 w/153k with 6cyl these cars are "tanks" and will run forever! BUT don't cheap out. Perform the regular maintenance. Water pumps need to be replaced or slow leaks start to grow into problems. Timing belts replace. Money spent works out to money saved!! .....Enjoy!!
