2011 3 Series BMW Miss firing / shuttering when step on the gas

for the past couple of weeks in the morning when my car is cold when I step on the gas it feels like it stuttering but then once warmed up ok.  Engine light never came on until today?  What could this be,  Trasmission or something else.  Car not that old.
