I am thinking of purchasing a 2011 Chevy Impala LTZ with 50000 miles on it. Is it safe to flush the transmission with this amount of miles?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have no idea what the previous maintenance was on this vehicle.  I currently own a 2006 Ford Explorer that I purchased with 24000 miles that now has over 250000 miles which I have maintained on a regular basis with both oil changes and transmission flushes.  Is 50000 miles to high to begin with especially when I don't know if the previous owner was regular with the maintenance?

Read the owner's manual for the change period, some mech. will tell you don't mess with it if there is nothing wrong. The most I would do it drain the fluid, change the filter and refill with tit correct fluid.

Check the fluid color. Normal change is around 100K. If it brings peace of mind, change fluid and filter only, no flush unless the oil is burnt and dirty.
