Should my 2011 Ford Edge odometer peg when starting the engine?

When starting my 2011 Ford Edge the odometer pegs momentarily. Is this normal?

I think you are referring to the speedometer as the odometer shows the total miles. Many vehicles sweep the entire range of the gauges in a calibration test phase and then return to their normal positions.
