Intermittent motor running

Asked by bowser12 Dec 16, 2015 at 05:16 PM about the 2011 Toyota Camry XLE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Why would I hear a small motor running after my car has been shut off for 2-3
hours?  The noise is coming from the left rear corner and starts and stops for
no reason while the car is sitting in my garage on a concrete floor. Is this
dangerous?

Does your 2011 have air suspension? If so, that would be the motor you hear.

Not sure on yours, but it may have an automatic leveler system in it. My car did the same thing, so on mine I had a leaking air line so the compressor would not pump up, it would just keep running. You may just have a small leak somewhere. No it is not dangerous, just may run down the battery.

Thank you so much. Recently hit a deer with this car. After body shop repaired the fender the car would not start. They said it ruined the battery and blew the entire electrical system. Recently repaired by Toyota and then the motor started running.

This MAY BE a normal function of the EVAP System on this vehicle. The computer on the car checks the Evap System for leaks by pressurizing the system and checking to see if it will hold pressure. Further research is required.
