Forcing gear out of park without braking

Asked by Brianna Dec 26, 2015 at 03:47 AM about the 2011 Kia Sorento EX V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my brothers friend who doesn't know how to
drive. Hopped in my driver seat and attempted to
drive....by shifting out of park into reverse without
pressing his foot on the brakes. Now when I
attempt to shift from park to reverse, it's almost as
if it's stuck and I'm forcing it into reverse. Can you
tell me what exactly is broken and is this major
damage.

It's kind a hard to say without taking the shifter a part, if your brother was able to force it to reverse then something was damaged for sure, but if he just tried and was not able to, my guess is the damage is not as bad.
