It could be the mass airflow sensor, idle control sensor, or O2 sensor. If your check engine light's on, have it hooked up to a diagnostic and see what the engine codes say.

I have a 2010 TDI also. Sometimes in the mornings it will hunt (rev up and down) at traffic lights. It never seems to last long. No engine lights or other symptoms. My car has 92,000 miles and basic maintenance done. Please post anything you find out about it.

Listen for the fuel pump priming.. If you can't hear it when you turn the ignition on but not actually starting the car then I would change it. I had exactly the same issues it was driving me crazy as to what it was.. turned out to be a simple fix by replacing the fuel pump! If you can't hear the pump priming you need a new one. Did mine last week ran perfect ever since, no shaking at idol.. also like to note that it was never consistent, sometimes it would be ok other times not... eventually it got so bad I new it had to be the fuel pump
