Ticking noise

Asked by GuruDYZCL Aug 12, 2017 at 06:36 AM about the 2010 Ford F-150 XLT SuperCab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've recently heard a ticking noise, as my 2010 f150
is ideling.  It is somewhat quieter when the A.C. is
on, but still there. After driving for 10-15 mins, I
smell a burnt wire smell. Any ideas?

hopefully it's not a lifter , did the oil level get low at any time ? could be a plug wire arcing , that'll make a tick though not a loud one , check it out at night and see if there's an arc , , look under the hood for any thing burning on the motor and under neath for something on the exhaust .
