Did you buy it new? possibly it broke and somebody chose to save money replacing it with regular window, way less money. Other than that...as for visibility maybe GM figures you need visibility out of that window when you look back to change lanes or something, but a a cost cutting measure who looks through the drivers side back window from drivers seat?

Yup, I bought it new and my brother just bought a new 2014 Denali--same thing. We just guessed that it was perhaps a visibility issue.

Because it will do absolutely no good to have it on the driver's side. Think about it. The driver can not turn his/her head that far.
