Chrysler Town and Country electrical problem

Asked by GuruXZGGB Oct 05, 2018 at 09:28 AM about the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country Touring FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've had this electrical issue occur several times. I was able to record it this
time, here's the Youtube video - https://youtu.be/PRY2fnhD1xM - What
happens is while driving, the lights start to flicker, the ESP warning light comes
on, then the car just dies. Luckily I was somewhere I could pull over. Then the
van won't restart. Key is locked in the ignition. I open the door, and everything
goes back to normal. No check engine light indicating any errors.

This is a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country. I've already replaced the TIPM. I've
check the wiring on the driver side door. I've check all the grounds. I've also
already had the vehicle ignition replaced via the recall.

Has anyone else found another solution to this issue?

Looked up your symptoms and saw a LOT of complaints from Chrysler owners about this happening to their T&C, and the solutions were all over the map. Everything to a bad bus, bad TIPM, bad battery terminals, frayed wiring in the door, and everything in between. This question has been asked here on CG before as well, here is a good post regarding these symptoms in a 2009 T&C: (just cut and paste link) cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion%2Dc21270_ds558083 You can also try looking up this same topic on forum.chryslerminivan.net and dodgeforum.com. There should have been a recall issue on this because it seems to be affecting a lot of T&C owners. Good luck.

I believe I just solved a 2010 TC strange electrical problem. I'm an electrical engineer and have solved many electronic problems all over the US and other countries. Most problems are simple, so always think simple. I once had a Volvo that was backfiring---I thought it was valves---it was no oil in the SU corroborator damper. Filled it with a light light oil---fixed. A mechanic would have sold me a valves job. My Chrysler, late 2010 TC van, with 55K miles, was doing weird things, like locking the doors all by itself. Changed remotes, same problem. Then the engine would start remotely when I didn't ask it too. The other night a neighbor said, the lights in your van are on and the engine is running. I had watched a video of an electrical car expert trouble shooting a TC and his solution was disconnecting the DVD player, customer didn't want to pay to repair it, so the tech left it unplugged. I know that there My problem: There's a switch under the engine hood that will prevent you from remotely starting you TC. So I said hell, I don't need remote starting a unscrewed the switch and moved it out of the way, problems solved, no more freaky remote engine starting or doors locking by spirits from the other side. So when trying to solve problems----of any kind----think simple. John j.silva_0491@sbcglobal.net I've had 3 engineers that were better them me, couldn't solve a problem----it took me 10 minutes to get it running and1/2 to solve all the problems---some people have gifts, I have one for solving electronic problems. Been accused of having a magic wand. Do stand up comedy for a hobby---write all my own jokes, To watch my video--Google----just as it's listed here------------------------------------John Silva Comedy 40-----for my 2017 Irvine Improv performance.

I have a 2010 T&C and have been dealing with this problem. With the fob pulled out it will sometimes turn on the 4 ways, open the windows, open the rear side doors, or unlock the car. Not always but sometimes. The dealer told me years ago when the rear side doors were opening that his wife had the same problem and they had no clue why. It has gotten bad now and just drained a 3year 3 month battery dead 2 nights in a row and had to buy a new one. End of subject. DON
