Can i tow my Town and country on a car dolly? rear wheels on the ground ??

Someone answered a similar question not long ago: here is their answer ----- "Copied from the owners manual: Front Wheel Drive Your vehicle may be towed under the following conditions: The gear selector must be in NEUTRAL, the distance to be traveled must not exceed 100 miles (160 km), and the towing speed must not exceed 44 mph (72 km/h). Exceeding these towing limits may cause a transmission geartrain failure. If the transaxle is not operative, or if the vehicle is to be towed more than 100 miles (160 km), the vehicle must be towed with the front wheels off the ground." ---- I've also read on some RV forums people recommend towing long distances with all 4 wheels down, after installing a trans lube pump.

If a front wheel drive vehicle is loaded on a car dolly with it's rear wheels on the ground, I don't see any problems in towing it the legal 55 mph tow speed limit. My Grand Caravan's rear wheels just roll. I have to make sure I block them when I raise the front with a floor jack. If a front wheel drive, automatic transmission car were being towed by hitch, I can see turning the key to neutral or better yet, the lube pump for the transmission.

No. There is an exception. I learned the hard way. I have a dolly and a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan (identical to Town & Country). Strapped down with front wheels on dolly, towing it broke the steering lock and ignition switch. You can get away with it IF you turn on key AND put it in neutral. That works for shorter distances. I tow behind my RV so to keep battery from dying with switch left on i put a quick disconnect on the battery ground cable. Since it will be in neutral, take special care in strapping it down so it cant move. A few ratchet straps on the underbody to the dolly would be wise. Disconnecting the battery does mean clock and radio will need reset. If your radio has theft deterent BE SURE YOU KNOW THE UNLOCK CODE for your vehicle or a dealer will have to reset it, usually for a fee.
