Do reputable dealers sell auctioned cars at retail prices?
Bought a Subaru from an authorized Subaru dealer. Turns out it was
auctioned twice. Was not sold at 3 other dealers. My "reputable" Subaru
dealer did not disclose full Carfax disclosing this info.
Unfortunately that's not their responsibility. The only thing a dealer is required to disclose before the sale is if the vehicle has a "lemon" branded title. It's up to you to do your homework and get a Carfax if the dealer doesn't offer a free one. Most dealers do. But many don't. Let this be a lesson learned! HTH. -Jim
Yes they do buy at auction and sell a retail, however most auction vehicles do need some work, minor usually, so most of them have been through thier shop and repaired, some even offer a small warranty.
My Subaru has major mechanical problems. Motor blown by first lease purchaser. Part of motor from junk yard, engine straps cut, bent alternator, burnt air blower box, worn timing belt at 59k miles, wrong tires. Compliments of my authorized Subaru franchise dealer.
the Whip - that is why you should have the car inspected by an independent mechanic. If your Subaru dealer gave you an inspection checklist or some other claim of inspection you may have a claim.
Almost all used cars sold by dealers are bought at auction first. Sometimes they do sell really clean trade ins but all the marginal cars are auctioned off first to other dealers.
