how to replace exterior door handle on 2010 nissan altima

I have taken door panel off and am ready to install new handle. I have snaked in the front and am trying to get the back/[ closest to key hole] in. it wont go all the way in due to a small trigger looking device.

now I have the new door handle some what in place. front went in fine but back [closest to key hole] is stuck. wont go all the way in, and cant be pulled back out. NOW WHAT?
