My husband changed battery on our 09 Kia Sedona...

As always, my husband changed the battery on our van.  It appeared pretty routine but
after changing the batter, the engine light came on and when I attempted to drive it, the
RPM went up way high....what's wrong?  I haven't even finished paying for it yet....
