Well you aren't really "changing" it in the historical sense, you are kind of refreshing it. You can only get about three quarts of the 8 or so quarts that is actually in the unit. You are basically dumping what is in the pan and putting in three new to mix with the remaining fluid in the torque converter, servos etc. I'm lazy, I do mine from the top through the dipstick tube with a vacuum pump. I made up a pickle jar with a couple of brass hose barbs soldered to the lid one tube goes into the bottom of the jar, the other to the barb just through the lid. Apply vacuum and just suck out the old, then pour in the new. Saves jacking, crawling, plug removal, oily hands, etc.etc.etc. Bart's right, Honda has always been 30K Its best to flush the brake fluid then too. Out comes my gizmo again for that. Starting with the rear passenger side caliper, I fill the MC, put the hose on the bleeder, crack it loose and start the pump. I vacuum till I get clear fluid, then close the bleeder and shut off the pump, then move to the opposite DS rear wheel, then the passenger side front caliper etc. Easy as 3.1415926!

James.. is it wise to use the same vacuum contraption for both trans and brake fluid though? or are you making sure to rinse the tubes and attach new pickle jars between functions?

If your vehicle has the Honda Maintenance Minder, then you should have the transmission serviced when the Sub-code 3 displays. This will occur around 60k miles with normal driving (as defined by the onboard computer that runs the Maintenance Minder. Honda specifically states there is no maintenance based on mileage. The maintenance intervals are based on engine load and environmental conditions. The only maintenance not covered by the Maintenance Minder is the brake flush, which Honda states should be done every three years.

yea my girlfriend waited for the "maintenance minder" to tell her when to change the differential fluid, just one problem differential blew out at 70k with the "mindless reminder " never coming up since the car was new. I'll stick to the old tried and true 30k intervals thank you very much mr. compute4

Is there a transmission filter on a 2011 CRV?

Agree with what rogerswh said above, HOWEVER, my dealer mechanic told me that unless you get the oil wrench light to come on by letting the oil life get down to 15% or less, other MM codes will not show up. I have found this to be true.
