When you say veneer/non vaneer I as assuming you are not talking about a wooden steering wheel. However, this problem was a common problem decades ago with the introduction of plastics. Over the years the plastic components tend to dry out (yes they do that) shrink and become brittle. The best example I can give you are the older cadillacs with the plastic trim around the tail lights when energy absorbing bumpers were introduced. Lets just say it is not going to get any better. The crack will get wider, to a point, then over time another crack will develop. There some products on the market (not made for that particular purpose) which will fill the gap. They are a two part epoxy product. Be advised you will never match the color or pattern completely. So if looking at a repair that does not match aggravates you more than the original crack, save yourself a little. For curosity sake, what is the make and model of your vehicle.

Must be a common problem with 2010 Sebring owners. The iternet has dozens of sight offering covers specially made for the sebring plus other companies which will redo the wheel completely for about 250 bucks. Of course it means pulling the wheel off the vehicle, sending it off for a remake. And I doubt will you want to have to resort to my actions when back in the early fifties, my model T was driven with a firmly attached pair of vice grips to the shaft. Maybe one of those custom covers will be to your liking. They are about fifty bucks.
