when i was driving my 2010 vw jetta I tried to move the gear from the third gear
to the forth one then i find it is loose and not accepting the shift from neutrn to
any other gear so i towed it home trying to repair it.
sounds like there is either a broken spring or something wrong with transmission linkage in that area. you may have to take it apart from down under and check it out. Hopefully it's just a broken spring down there somewhere. I have a 5 speed 1.8t and it shifts just fine for me at 235,000 miles now. Your looking at maybe a $130 shop bill, 80 labor and 40 50 bucks for parts. strictly opinion
