Broken cylinder head bolt

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I over torqued a cylinder head bolt on a
2010 Nissan Versa 1.8 liter engine and the
bolt snapped as I tightened it. The stud is
not going to be easy to extract without
removing the cylinder head. Will a broken
head bolt prevent the car from starting?
The broken bolt is near the exhaust valves
between the cylinders on the car's
passenger side. I guess those would be
number one and number two pistons.
Thanks!

Needs to be fixed or you'll end up with oil/coolant cross contamination or blown head gasket. If you don't have any experience extracting broken head bolts or studs tow it to a shop that can do it, or see if they can send someone out. Bolt extractors might do it, but if those break you have an even harder job getting it out. Old skool It might be slagged out with a torch and air, but again that's a pro's job.
It will not prevent the car from starting, but the head gasket may soon fail.
