Antitheft system

Asked by Jan 05, 2017 at 10:55 PM about the 2010 Cadillac DTS Platinum FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Set my alarm from my remote keypad &
accidentally locked keys in trunk. Had to unlock
door with a wire hanger & when I did alarm went
off but since keys were locked in trunk had to get
to trunk through emergency latch in
backseat...took me about a minute in a half until I
found my keys & was able to disarm alarm. After I
turned alarm off & went to start car headlight
switch is locked in place & won't let me change or
rotate it to turn lights from off/on, automatic etc.
Trunk release button is also sunk in & I don't know
what to do to make it release or headlight switch to
unlock.

Try disconnecting battery for a few minutes to reset alarm

Try locking then unlocking the vehicle using the key fob. If you don't have a key fob try locking the driver's door from the outside using the key, if that's possible. Then unlock it using the key. If this doesn't work you'll have to be towed to your local Cadillac (or GM dealer) for repairs. For future reference you could have gone to your local GM dealer with your registration and driver's license for proof of ownership and they would have made you a spare key. The new key wouldn't have started the vehicle but you could have gotten into it without tripping the security system. HTH. -Jim
