Sienna 2010 cannot move

Sienna 2010 has 66k miles, never has a problem
until late two days ago on Highway. We first heard
a little bit noise, then check engine, VSC, and Trac
off lights were on. We pulled over and turned off
engine. No problem to restart, but all three lights
were still on, cannot move. Towed there car
backed home to a dealership.

They dealer service called two days later, claiming
front brakes are in metal to metal status, battery is
really low, but they worst thing is they claimed they
transmission needs to be replaced with an
estimated cost of more than 4k bucks.

The warranty has expired. Can anybody help to
decide what I need to do? I know nothing about
mechanics. They car has always functioned well,
never has any symptoms before this.

Followed up: the battery was replaced last year, so i asked the service person to have the brakes replaced so that I can drive the car for a second opinion. But I was told that since the car cannot move, the transmission must be replaced first. Is this true?

Yes, if the computer thinks the transmission is broken it locks out the gear selector. If it were me I would trade the car in for a new car and let the Dealer worry about moving it. Cause, they can repair it at actual cost, so it want effect the trade in value of the car as much. I would do this instead of buying vehicle maintenance insurance. If you aren’t in a position to purchase a new vehicle trade it in anyway and use the cash to pay for bus fare. You can get loan from your credit union if you just have keep old reliable.
