Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I purchased a used 2010 Toyota Camry and was given a type A Smart Key that had a dead battery. The key fits the ignition and all locks and the car can be started. I replaced the battery with a fresh one but it does not operate any smart key features. I'm left wondering if the Smart Key System is even installed on this vehicle. How can I tell?

a smart key is the one that usually comes with a push to start ignition.. yours is "kinda" smart but has forgotten how to unlock and lock the doors and the trunk. does the tiny light go on when you press any button?

Karmon, When I first put a new battery into the key a red flashed on the key several times. Frankly I haven't noticed if that light comes on when I push a key. I can't check it at moment because I left the key with the car to be serviced. Ill check it as soon as I have it back in hand. Thanks for your input.

try another battery, if the light does go on but remote has no effect, it either has "forgotten" how to communicate with your car or its broken. harbor freight has cheap button cell batteries

Karmon, Success!! I started to open the key to put in a new battery. I opened it and accidently shut it again ... and it started working! Thank you for the info and sticking with it. Had you not suggested putting in a second battery, I would have started looking for a different answer. Jim
