poor mileage on 2010 toyota camry

I bought used 2010 camry with 7000 miles.  Drove the car for about 100 miles(mixed city
and freeway) with little bit of heater on.  I got about 16 MPG.  It is way below the rating
and what others have experienced.  What could be the problem here?
Note: Previous owner is too old to drive the car, so she sold the car.

It sounds like a great car, with only 7000 miles- make sure you are measuring correctly- then if you keep getting an answer of 16, have a mechanic do a smog test to make sure you are not running rich, or have a clogged catalyst, etc. Also, a heater will not affect the gas mileage, but having the AC on, will.
