how far can I drive my car 2009 328I with a bad vanos solenoid, no check engine light.

diagnostic code states vanos solenoid need replacing, just got it replaced in
Florida in May, now in Washington DC area and need to drive it back for
repair. Paid $1475.00 for the repair.

Just had the same diagnostic on a mini cooper, friend of mine is a BMW tech, he told me to have the oil changed (synthetic of course) and drive the car hard. I did this and the check engine light went away and the car drives great now.
