I have a 2009 Ford Ranger 3 liter.  The spark plugs and wires have been

If it runs fine when the engine is on, why would you suspect the fuel pump or the filter? could be a faulty ignition coil/plugs/wires. Might be dirty injectors or throttle body, idle air control valve, or mass sensor; and don't forget to check the air intake filter. The car should be giving you codes that tell you what part of the car is defective. You just have to get the codes read to find out.
