F-150 windshield installation

Asked by Gary Apr 09, 2012 at 09:41 PM about the 2009 Ford F-150 Lariat SuperCrew LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Had to have windshield replaced. After replacing I noted that the seals on both sides of the outside of the windshield were missing. I was told they weren't needed with new installation. I need someone to tell me if the seal is part of the windshield or not. Installer claims not needed. Wind noise is noticeably louder. I believe I recall seals along both sides of the windshield. Right?

Usually have em on each side. Prevents two things, wind noise and water leaks, water follows the roof rail and runs down the windsheild on both sides

I have taken a few off, it is a real pain to find the clips on the first one usually, and this is with a homemade tool made with a banding strap. maybe yours were busted off on the first one, and the boy didnt learn anything on the other side either so you must not need them anymore, isnt there one across the top and bottom? they usually snap in real nice and easy when replaced.

As I recall they were all around the windshield but most noticeable on the sides where the door pillars are now well out beyond the windshield and thus not particularly smooth/aerodynamic or attractive:-> I've tried to find these "seals" or whatever they are called on various supply sites on line and I can't seem to find anyone that has them. Anyone know what they are called or where to get them besides from Ford?

well i would visit your local salvage yard that will let you take some off or take them off for you. Its nice to work on one that smashed that you cant hurt much more. if you get them i am thinking you will have to take either the top or bottom off and get them all back in the right sequence. hopefull your windshield hasnt been glued in to far to one side or something really screwy cause the paid profesional you hired should of done it because it aint that hard, unlike the old rubber gaskets that had slot for your chrome trim. those required patients and some good cussing.

Well it was Safelite. I'm expecting them to replace them. They claim they aren't part of the windshield. I said fine, then they should have someone who can remove and replace any parts that are not supplied new. My insurer seems to be on my side. Thanks.
