P1254 and P0524 codes

Asked by Wallace Jul 21, 2017 at 06:45 PM about the 2009 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Getting two(2) codes, P1254 and P0524, low oil pressure.
Oil gauge drops to near 0 then slowly climbs back to near
normal. Getting a lot of lifter/valve chatter. Last night the
check engine light came on, the ABS shut down and lost
complete power to the engine on the highway doing
75mph.  Have a bad feeling it's the oil pump going out .
Want to try swapping out the oil pressure sensor first to
rule that out. But I am looking at what looks like two
pressure sensors just above the oil filter. One facing
forward, the other towards the passenger tire well.  Does
the 2009 5.7 hemi  actually have 2 sensors or is there only
one?   Or do you think it is the oil pump going out? (178,000
miles) Was the shut down a warning signal for a failing oil
pump?

1 Answer

Since you are getting warnings AND engine noise you need to stop driving it as the damage will only get worse. What ever the cause, driving with low oil pressure will destroy your engine.
