Constant weight in rear of car over rear wheels

Asked by Mazolla Dec 28, 2012 at 09:44 AM about the 2009 Honda Fit Base

Question type: General

I find that on snow or slush over 2 inches deep my Fit has very little traction. I have put 120 lbs. of stone in the trunk and I " think" it helps. My question: Will a constant 120 lbs. weight over rear wheels damage the springs/shocks?

Having additional weight won't damage anything. It's like having a couple of kids in the rear seat. It will wear the rear shocks a little. It will also decrease the MPG's. Additional weight added to the rear won't do much for traction unless your Fit is four wheel drive. Get a set of four snow tire if you don't have them yet. They will increase traction a lot more than weight will.
