extended warranty: yes or no?

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I'm in the process of buying a brand new 2009 Civic and must deal with warranty question. I've never bought an extended before, but they are trying to freak me out with the "well, everything's computerized now" argument. Does this really matter? I plan to own the car for at least seven or eight years, but I owned my previous Hondas for even longer and only had one major problem on each of them, one of which didn't happen until after I owned it for nine years anyway. Any thoughts?

I bought it. I financed the car for 6 years so I figured that I would like a warranty on it when I still owe money on it. Plus it's only a few thousand more compared to a 25,000 dollar car.

I agree I bought a 2008 Civic brand new last year. I bought the extended warranty for the same reason of the loan and wanting to be covered. Its also nice to have the oil change plan. The computer equipment is very expensive. Knowing its a Honda means that I probably won't need the warranty but it is nice to have my bases covered. When I negotiated warranty I originally told them I was not interested and was able to piece together my warranty for the lowest cost of all the packages. Don't be afraid to haggle and get what you want. They gave me the anti theft and some other stuff for the platinum package.

I personally didn't bother getting an extended warranty. We bought the car based on its reliability. Anything major that would happen with the car I am sure would have surfaced during the original warranty. Funny story: when negotiating the price with the dealership, we were constantly being sold on how reliable the car was and how one would never have to do any repairs on it. Once we had settled on the price and were signing the paperwork, the employee responsible for selling us the extended warranty and add-ons kept on stating the fact that we should get the extended warranty since "Hondas break". :) *Sigh*... perhaps that is one reason we didn't go with an extended warranty ;) I hate pushy and deceiving sales tactics.

http://www.nationalrepairsolutions.com/#!honda-auto-warranty- online/c250f seemed legit. Call a couple of companies and they specialized in Hondas.
