Do I have to replace the gear shift cable

Asked by Sep 02, 2017 at 08:32 PM about the 2009 Chevrolet Colorado LT1 Ext. Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Truck wouldn't go into any gear but 3rd,
managed to get it into neutral and get it
started. Pulled it back to 3rd and tried to
get it into drive and a clip fell out on the
floorboard, looked like a giant staple. Still
wouldn't go into drive, only 3rd. So...do I
need to replace the whole gearshift cable
or can I just pop this clip back in? Is it hard
to replace the gear shift cable?
