Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2009 RAV4  2.4 L VVTi with seized engine.  A used engine ( 170 000
km) with installation and service will cost > $6000, new engine with installation
10 to 12 000 (by Toyota). Is it worth having the new/ engine installed or should
I sell the vehicle for parts? If so how do I go about selling it for parts?

The rule of halves apply here. If the replacement is half the value of the vehicle the, the vehicle should be replaced. In this case a 2009 is only valued at $5-$8k therefore you would be spending equal to the value of the vehicle with a used, and twice the value with new. I suggest you take the $12k and see what you get with a trade in. 170000 km= 105,000 miles, is not alot of miles for this vehicle. btw what caused the seizing? contact me at responsiblemedia@aol.com
