Why does my "BRAKE" light up on the dash when the weather is cold?

Asked by imms1026 Jan 08, 2017 at 08:16 PM about the 2009 Subaru Outback 2.5i

Question type: General

This just started happening, if the temperature is below freezing the light comes on.  I don't use the parking brake but have tried engaging and releasing it with no change.  Twice the "AIRBAG" light came on right next to the brake light.  It shut off after a few minutes but the Brake light stays on.   Car doesn't feel different.  Strange!

Check the brake fluid level. Maybe it is low and the cold temps cause it to contract in volume making the light come on. Maybe. Cold temps do funny things to electronics, it might just be a loose electrical connection.
