front hood on my 2005 Escape unlatched twice in the past three days while driving on the highway; is there a latch problem we don't know about?

I can only think of 2 things, the hood is not completely shut,or bad latch.

This just happened to me today on my 2006 Ford Escape. The hood opened up while driving down the highway at full speed. To me, it appears that the Lund bug deflector may be the culprit. The middle two plastic screws appear to have broken off, allowing the lower lip of the bug diflector to move inward and upward with wind force actually lifting the secondary latch manual lever. I cannot explain how the primary latch became disengaged however, unless the loose bug deflector was interfering with it as well. In any case, this dealer-installed bug deflector is a bad design, in my opinion.

In our case, we found that the latch spring was almost clogged, and after a thorough cleaning, and re-greasing it the operation of the spring loaded latch was much more secure and have not had any further issues with the hood flying open.

My Ford Escape 2012 unlatched while we were driving on highway at full speed. It flew up and smashed the windshield. The gentleman from road service told us that he had dealt with several cases recently, all because of Ford vehicle latches.

My daughter had a 2014 Ford Escape The hood flew open while driving smashed the windshield and now the car is totaled

Just happened to me yesterday. 2010 escape. Going 115. Scariest moment of my life

New hood will be modified with two additional side locks like Mercedes and BMW. As a European Mechanic I have more spare parts than a normal person should keep around. It's hard to throw out good parts knowing they can be repurposed.

I had same experiece with Ford Scape recently. I think issue is with the location of lever to open hood. It is very near to right leg and while getting down, lever might get pulled by drivers right leg which will leave hood open.
