Installing a tow hitch

I wish to install a tow hitch on my 2009 Prius. The install instructions call for a slight modification to the plastic underbody panel on the driver side. How do I remove the plastic rivets without breaking them?

pull them out of the grommet with a flat screwdriver (about 1/4 inch) and the whole plastic rivet assembly should come out.
