Try putting a volt meter on the battery as it sits right now. See what it has for volts. If it's below 12, you may have a charging issue. Your jeep may need a fully charged battery to start. If the battery is at 10.8 volts, your alternator may be bad and not charging your battery back to full capacity. After testing the battery at rest, test it again with the engine running. You will have to jump it. Put the tester on the voltage side of the alternator. You should get a reading of 13.8 or higher. If you get something around 12 or less, you will have to replace your alternator.

Forgot to mention that if you have a key with a chip in it, that may also be the problem. I have heard that they can build up static on the key and the computer can't read it. Try touching the key to metal before starting the Jeep. See if that works.......

Thanks, the battery is fully charged. It was hooked up to a jumper box this morning and still would not crank over. I have read about the key issue to, I think that is my last resort.

Come to think of it, I think my buddy had a problem with his. I think he was trying to start it with the Valet key. Are both of your keys chipped? If not, only use the one with a chip.

Yes they are both chipped, and I have tried to start it with both of them.

Ok, just did some digging, apparently Jeep has a class action law suit against them for faulty electrical. Here's what I found:A no crank or no start condition may develop due to electronic lockup of the wireless control module (WCM), also referred to as the Sentry Key Remote Entry Module (SKREEM). When this module fails the remote keyless entry system will also not operate. The WCM is commonly replaced to correct this concern. There was another electrical issue with the TIP module. If you have to replace that it's like $1200 bucks. I think the WCM is about $260 to replace......

Thank you, I will have them test them. It just is weird cause it startes sometimes and my keyless entry works.

I own a 2009 Jeep Patriot Limited with the same issues, the dealer has had mine for almost 2 weeks, claiming parts are back ordered and that there is no recall regarding such as well as that these internal electrical issues are not covered under the warranty. I am paying payments on a vehicle that sits at the dealers service department while I am carless!! Just don't seem right... How do you suggest I get involved with this class action lawsuit?

Was this issue ever resolved? I have the same exact problem. Intermittent starting for a few days, then finally had to get towed home. Keyless entry works, but I just hear a click in the dash when I turn the key. Battery is fine, starter is fine (put 12V to the relay wire and it turns over). I'm not even going to consider dropping 1200 on the WCM beings that the locks work. Any help is appreciated.

I had the same problem in a 2015 patriot...I figured out that if you turn the key onto auxiliary, push in the brake, put it in drive for a couple seconds, put it back in park, turn the key off wait a second then crank it again, it fires right up.

I have a 2009 Jeep Patriot. Obviously, we're looking at a reoccurring problem because I got up Monday morning, attempted to start my car, and it wouldn't start. It appeared to be an issue with the battery, and since I had the battery for four years, I just assumed it was time to get another. I waited for a moment, and then it miraculously started. So, I couldn't let it rest, went to Auto Zone, and the service rep tested the battery, and he claimed the battery was bad; therefore, I quickly purchased a new battery and took it to Express Oil to put it in for me. They put new ends on the battery cables, and everything started nicely after that. So, about two and a half hours ago, I finished up at the gym, walked out to my car, attempted to start it, and all I heard was clicking noises. The people at this particular gym are extremely nice and tried to give me a jump, but nothing came of it. In fact, I found it quite odd that one moment the car seemed to have a little power to the radio and dome, but then when I tried to start it, everything went black. Well, I went to remove the positive cable, scooted it up a bit, and something told me to make another attempt at starting the car. All of a sudden, it started like magic. I don't believe in magic. I'm wondering if there's a shortage between the battery and the starter. When I drove home, I didn't have any problems. I drove all the way to my house in another town, turned off the car, waited a few minutes, and then turned it back on. After that, I drove to the gas station, turned off the car, filled up, and then turned it back on. Everything functioned as I hoped it would.

I have Jeep Patrior 2007, same problem as many of you people have. Battery is new. when I turn the key It makes 4-5 click then silence And after 3-4 try, start is taking. I add some mobil engine oil then 7-8 days working without any trouble. After 7-8 days again the same problem. Mechanic suggest me to change the 'self' (starter). Confused ...what to do.

I am having the same problem starting my 2010 patriot. I have only had this car for 4 days, and on the same day I bought it, I later drove to an outdoor park, turned the car off, walked around for about 10 minutes, and then the car wouldn't crank! I tried it about 5 times, then tried random things like opening the hood & closing it, pushing the brake, and turning the steering wheel. At some point it did crank back up but I have no idea how. Now today, 3 days later, I go to leave school to grab some lunch and the car wont crank again. :(

I have an 2009 Patriot that will not start. A mechanic told me that the power between the control module and ignition control unit discharges within 8hrs. When you connect a UBD 2 unit, it will recharge the system and start. It is all part of the cars computer!? UBD2 $350 or computer $5000ish?

2011 Patriot - out of the blue doesn't start. Both keys open and lock the vehicle and the panic buttons work. HOWEVER, accidentally tried the 'remote' start and the vehicle started. There a delay of about 2-3 second before starting, but it start. Still can't get it started with key in ignition. Cleaned battery (had a lot of build up - little corrosion), no change. Thoughts?

does your traction control light and bas stay on? mine is , and dodge said it would be a $600 fix plus a tow. they said it was the WCM.

Same deal in a 09. All the tricks pump break put in N put in D turn on the headlights jiggle the keys and mine is complete stock! Like roll-up the windows front wheel drive stock jeep patriot. It has nothing to do with your keyless entry or your chip in your keys. I have neither of these and I have the problem. If the jeep sits idle for more than 7hrs it won't start and I have to play the game. Turn on the blinker try to start turn on the wipers put it in N try to start. At some point by doing all this weird stuff it will get the signals to go to the right components and start

All these posts seem identical, one person said they jumpered across the relay and it cranked. That tells me that the ignition switch with the ECM is not sending voltage to the starter solenoid which would close and send Full battery amperage to the starter. My guess at this point would steer towards the ECM.

Check your battery terminals very well, I have a 2010 Jeep Patriot and I've been having the same kind of issues, new battery, pulled the starter and had it tested, still same thing, accessory would work until I turned the key then everything cuts off and no engine turn over or even clicking. Traced it down to the old factory battery terminal connectors are crap and stretch over time as you change your battery. The negative side was tightened down as far as it would go and still had a little wiggle which I think was causing a little hairline gap between the post and connector that allowed buildup of corrosion between the post and connector. I ended up changing both to the thicker lead terminal connectors and everything seems to be working fine now. So yea check your connections thoroughly, make sure to clean the inside of the connector where it makes contact with the post, inspect the battery wires and make sure there are no deformations or cuts in the insulation that could allow the wires inside to become corroded.

Ok mine was a simple fix. Mine suddenly had the same noncrank issue out of the blue. 2008 patriot 2.4L. Same symptoms as everyone else. Got the original key from my wife and tried the keyless entry. Worked fine. So I was like ok let’s try this key, as I was using the valet key. Lowe and behold it fired right up and is doing fine as of now. I think the valet key wasn’t programmed or the battery may be completely dead in it from sitting for over 10 years. Either way I’m thrilled that it isn’t costing me any money for a repair and I have just over zero faith that Chrysler didn’t totally ruin Jeep lol . Cheers fellas from the Adirondacks.

I know there are a few different electrical issues with several different models. Here is what I found. 2009 patriot 2.4l . In the relay box( under the hood down low front driver's side) you can open it from under the hood but to really access it you have to take tire and inner fender off. On mine and a couple others I have seen the relay(drivers side and closest to the cab) there is corrosion and usually one pin is corroded right off. I tried to open box and pull pin out but found the corrosion actually went right into the wire. The cheapest answer was to remove all the wires for that relay and wire directly to a new relay outside of the box. Water proofed it as best I could to prevent more issues. It started right up. No problem since. While u r in there use contact cleaner on eve and an anticorrosive electrical grease.

2016 Jeep Patriot Sport 2.4 L (manual doors & windows believe it or not) and it does not turn over or even make a noise! I took the key out and tried over and over and finally it just turned on like there was no problem in the first place. Took me two tries lastnight and about six (6) this afternoon - I am upset right now and hope I can figure this out!

I also have 2016. Jeep Patriot and manual windows and locks and all of a sudden it won't do anything.

Same issue Patriot 2011. If I remove the battery connection leave for a minute, reconnect - it starts and runs fine. About 3-4 weeks and it won’t start. Repeat battery disconnect procedure and it works. Very annoying

Did the new battery, terminals, starter all wrong. Try ignition starter switch & ignition switch actuator. Right where the key goes in it's cheap part. Right under the steering wheel.

I have a 2008 jeep patriot, started and ran fine after sitting a few days i went to start it and it appeared to have a low battery. I had the battery checked and charged still very slow cranking and wouldn't start, replaced the starter and all battery leads and grounds. No change it just cranks slowly and won't start i did notice the starter gets hot from cranking. Any suggestions?

Okay, guys, I am no expert but have been toying with the TIPM on an 07 Caliber and now my 08 Patriot. This is not a correct fix, but a fix.. I started having warning lights pop up on my dash, then would have a random no crank no start issues. Battery and starter are fine. One day it just stopped cranking. I wired in a push-button for the starter only to realize whatever was causing the no crank problem also killed the fuel pump. I found that jumping fuses 23 and 26 together allowed the fuel pump to come on with the key and to start. I put in a toggle switch for when I am running the jeep, however, I found that with key off it kills the power to them. I think a jumper wire would be fine. I have had no issues for 3 days and a few hundred miles.

Anyone able to fix this issue yet? Im having the same issue with my 09 jeep patriot. I went to the doctors and to the store then drove home. Let it sit for about 2hrs or so and went to start it up and It wont crank over. The key works to lock and unlock the doors and when i put the key in and turn the car on only the dome/dash lights and raido come on and heat/air of course. Ive had the battery and coil packs replaced, as well as a new rear k frame. I thought it was the issue with the key but its not since it unlocks and locks the doors and the panic button works. Any idea on what to do?

Check relays. Pull left frt wheel and then frt inner fender. You will find relay center Prolly find green rot on wires fixed mine been good ever since :>)

Hello my 2010 automatic started having these issues, so I replace the fuses and battery terminals and did a hard reset after this and I worked fine for like 4 days and today it wont start at all.. Same as before tho it all lights up seat belt warning door warning everything works both keys work so not the keys but it doesnt turn over, almost like it just goes blank screen. Also before it was making a ticking sound on the passenger side after fire up so this makes me think the starter finally died? Could someone please help me out with this as most people say things like the tipm or wcm are an issue but then it starts acting up again for them... Or the alarm being a factor? On mine the alarm was disconnected so I dont think its that either the closest things I can think of are (I have symptoms for is a bad starter as everything lights up but no crank or the asd and fuel pump relay are bad?) But starter being replaced doesnt help you and I checked my relay box and fuses and cleaned them no corrosion or breaks of relay prongs, but some green on the female terminal so I sanded and quick dry sprayed all over the common issued areas that get corrosion. And this helped for 4 days, could it be bad wiring in the relay box as it is in a bad location or a bad asd or fuel pump relay? Please help I dont have the money for a waste of time at the dealership but I'm mechanically inclined enough to do it.
