CV Joint or Transmission?

I have a 2009 Ford Focus with 80K.

The car began making a loud grinding noise when turned hard to the left or right. It
progressively got worse until it sounded like metal on metal grinding, then stopped
working.

The engine runs fine but will not move when shifted in/out of gear (automatic
transmission). Additionally, the car will roll when in park. Its like the transmission isn't
engaged.

Does this spound like a CV joint problem or a transmission problem?

my experience was a clunking sound like the trans dropped and shifted at the same time.rpm's went up couldn't go over 25 or 30 mph. started out going through a few shift modules..didn't fix the problem.. at 62,000 miles my 2008 needed a whole new trans. i was less than please. the codes kept changing at one time it read that i had an F150..umm no.upon researching this trans. it was the last set of transmissions made on the line and less than stellar parts were used to get them off the line..lovely right. good luck.

my tires keep needing to be replaced quickly in my ford focus can that be do to not having a cv boot

its your cv joint, you can look under your car at the axle, and at the boot you will see grease all over
