How can I tell if the e38 computer module is good
or bad in my 2009 impala

Hook up an OBD and follow the instructions, if it connects and runs through everything whether there's engine codes or not, the computer's good. If an OBD won't connect with following the procedures correctly, then the computer or it's relay is bad.
