The regulator is normally built into the alternator. Not sure about Cadillac but on some Fords, voltage regulation is controlled by the engine computer. On Chrysler, there is a temp sensor under the battery to lower charging volts when it is hot outside, charge higher when it's cold out. When buying alternators, buy new ones, not rebuilt ones. That's all I know.

You could stop buying the parts store junk and try a new or rebuilt from the local Cadillac dealership. Yes it will cost more. Better yet, have it looked at by a reputable mechanic.

Check the fuse that is enclosed on the cable attached to the battery and alternator. I belive it's the starter cable not 100% sure. If battery is good and the alternator is good then what connects them two together? Has to be a fuse on the cable.
