Having problems with auto door locks on rear passenger doors 2009 Lucerne

Asked by George Oct 22, 2016 at 08:00 PM about the 2009 Buick Lucerne CXL1 FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

About 2 1/2 years ago I bought it used previously owned by my neighbor who
said it was really good car w/ no problems. I soon noticed that RR door lock
would sometimes not go down far enough to lock when using either key fob
or lock button on driver's door. I looked on the internet and found an entry
that said something about the cables being routed wrong in those cars, thus
binding and being too hard for actuator, but didn't fix it at that time as it wasn't
a real big nuisance. My recollection is that there was a TSB on it at that time.
It slowly got worse both up and down, and now the LR door is developing the
same problem. I decided it was time to do something about it and looked on
the internet for the information I found before, but now I can find nothing on it.
Does anyone know anything about the problem, and more importantly, how
to fix it? Any clues you can give me would be appreciated.

i just live with it.. i just did not want to open up the trim to access it. u can use a plastic scraper to pry the fasteners off but there is one screw that is hidden to find and remove. i did it in my 89 riviera but not wanting to do it again cozz it takes time to do it right and check all connections for corrosion and continuity.

Thanks, Jason, for your answer. I just was wondering if anyone out there had actually tried to fix it and how hard and successful the actual fix is once you have the trim off. Anyone else out there that has tried?

George, just today, in about two hours replaced both rear door latches. The 2009 Lacerine has an integrated electric lock, manual lock. Internal release, external, re lease, and kid lock all in a little box screwed in place. The door trim panel actually only has one screw holding the panel in place, under a plastic piece under the interior release handle - the other fasteners are push in place. Reassembly is tricky as the main metal clips need to be removed from the panel and put on plastic clip holders. There is MORE that gets do, but once you get the panel off without damage, the rest is kinda of easy.
