change the fuel filter first..add 2 cans of ZMAX to the fuel...

What was done on an "Air induction service "? Specifically... ?

They were suppose to clean the throttle body, fuel injectors, intake valves and ports, remove combustion chamber deposits and balance of fuel and air in system. I'm just confused because I'm reading so many things that could be wrong.

I will vouch for Kelly, he knows his stuff about engines but I had to look up this ZMAX stuff. Trying to find out what it really is, actual ingredients. But nothing but fantastic claims (from manufacturer) but again, Kelly can be trusted in his advice

Ok, we were posting at the same time. But what you describe sounds like somebody pouring some additive in to fuel. I hope you didn't pay a lot for this

Balance of fuel and air is determined by the ECU. Nothing else, from the data it gets from 02 sensors. MAF, MAP, A/F ratio sensor in exhaust stream, and the computer uses that data to set air/fuel trim. It's not adjustable Now, this ZMAX is a supposed 'micro lubricant' this is the same thing I use to clean and lube my firearms

Non serviceable, in the fuel tank. I put the link separate to make it easy ti hyperlink if you choose to see the forum thread, It's kinda extreme to say completely non-serviceable, but the filter is a mesh sock on the pick-up on the pump in the tank. Difficult, time consuming, but unlikely the problem anyway Unless you got some hard-core contamination, sand in the tank, either by vandalism or... well I don't know what else it could be. The sock will capture and hold a tremendous amount of debris, it's designed for the life of the car.

Ok yeah idk what it could be its so frustrating. What should I look for next if it's not the fuel filter?

3 people found this helpful.

With no OBDII codes, that is somewhere between difficult and impossible to diagnose from behind a keyboard. Sorry my friend.

I had the same problem, car would stall with no codes. When it was not stalling the car ran very well. I checked the fuel pressure and it was within specs and throttle body checked out ok. Finally I replaced the computer and that fixed the problem. I bought a used tested computer for $125 which included the supplier programming the computer with the VIN.

I have same issues, but now the dealership is claiming time chain which I had replaced years ago. Would it matter if I just had the oil changed a week ago with a new oil filter?

GuruWTZJ6, I am having the same stalling problem with my 2002 Chevy Malibu. I just had it in the shop with my local mechanic and they cold not get it to duplicate in the 3 days that they had the car. Which computer did you change? The ECM? I have had the ECM reprogrammed a couple of months ago for a different reason. Where did you purchase the new / programmed computer?

It's a bad throttle body... usually a stuck closed after a bit of idling or driving it will chicken and die with no engine light... guarantee it. Just replaced my 4th Malibu throttle body for another customer who owns one, and once again problem solved...

My car stalls when I come to a stop as well. I had the throttle body cleaned but that didn’t fix the problem. Took it to a couple mechanics they didn’t have a solution to the problem. So frustrating.

It turns out it was the computer. No matter what I did prior to replacing the computer, the car would run well for 20-30 minutes and then suddenly stall. No error codes would be recorded until finally on one stalling episode a code was recorded indicating memory was the issue. I bought a used computer and had it programmed with the car VIN and that soulved the problem.

Did you put the car on a scanning tool? A code for the MAP sensor may very well be due to loose intake manifold bolts.

GuruC7M3M...which computer? Having the same problems with my '13 Malibu, two shops ( Tech guru all the mechanics here go to, and dealership). New throttle body. O2 sensor , retightened crankcase and manifold covers, new catalytic$$$...problem keeps returning.

Karen’s like my 13 Chevy Malibu LT is getting worse. Every time I come to a stop I have to put in neutral so it won’t stall out and last night it stalled out on my keeping in neutral at a stop 3 times within 1 mile! I’m so done with this car there’s no hope, took it to 2 independent shops and 1 Chevy dealer they couldn’t find nothing zero codes and GM customer service was no help never returned my calls nor my messages! Save your money and headaches this car is garbage this can will leave you stalled out.

I have the same issue, the check engine light would come on and a P0171 code is what was recorded. I replaced MAF Sensor, air filter and the light still would come on. I tightened the bolts around the manifold then the car ran ok for awhile and the code hasn’t been on since. My car still stalls after driving it for a while when at stoplight but no check engine light. Idk what else to do it’s a 2013 Malibu lt.

I have a 2013 Chevy Malibu LT and I started having the stalling issues about two months ago. I’ve had a new alternator, battery, throttle body and cleaning. Still doing the same thing. About ready to trade it in. It’s becoming unsafe for me to drive

My car is a 1999 Chevy Malibu and it stalls out of nowhere and cranks right back up and have some rough idiling at a stop light when I have my foot on the brake and in park. So what can be my issue?

I'm researching this same issue for someone else and I came across this thread. I also found out that this car ('14) has an auto-stop feature to save fuel - I think it's malfunctioning but I haven't been able to find any additional information. I may try the ZMAX additive to see if that helps. I'm sure the throttle bodies haven't been cleaned. I am curious about where the previous poster found a new computer for $125 though.

Try the ECU. I have a 2014 Ltz Malibu and replaced ever sensor you can think of containing this matter. This is the last step to solve our problems. If this doesn't work for us after all the money spent, I will make my point bro get to the bottom of if. I promise.

Ecm Is what you need. AutoZone has it and O'Riley's for sure. Not cheap but we'll worth it.

My 2015 Chevy Malibu LT is stalling, shuts up, but I’m able to start it again and drive, but it jerks and feel like it will cut out again. I took it two 2 mechanics, the first one said it was oxygen and o2 sensors, 2nd one has been the most honest- stated the sensors are fine, and he could not fine anything- no codes, suggest take to dealer, today makes day 3 that they had my car- same response not reading any codes- running a test to see if it’s the catalytic converter- so confused on what to do- should I allow them fix the catalytic converter pay all this money to have the same issue? Any advice would be much appreciated.

My 2012 Chevy Malibu LT is stalling whenever I push the breaks or slowing down. It kicks and lunges forward really bad. I think all of you that own any Chevy Malibu (any year) need to report this to the Bureau of Automotive Repair so they can set up a RECALL on all Chevrolet Malibus. Mechanics all continue to lie. I took mines to Courtesy Chevrolet in Mission Valley and they bullshitted me $2,600 for all kinds of bs services!!! When my car went into the repair shop (yes the dealership) it was not acting like this. Now, it hesitates. I changed the spark plugs, ignition coils, sensors, camshaft sensor, radiator water pump, air intake system and passed SMOG with flying colors. The car still lunges forward and one Mechanic told me that YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY entirely. Starting to believe it really is garbage of a vehicle just like NISSANS. lets get together and notify Bureau of Automotive repair CA about this problem or contact an attorney of LEMON LAW. Waste of my money, all of our moneys.

Hello GuruGCNHD2 Is there any other way to program the engine control module (ECM) beside taking it to the deal? I just paid the Chevrolet deal $575 for the same problem. They changed my O2 sensor that I just replaced in July.

I have a 2010 Chevy Malibu ltz 2.4, same problems I come to a point to slow down or stop and the car starts to rev and rpms go up and down then the jerking starts and a light knock and stalls out. It happens like every other day not everyday. I replaced throttle body, camshaft sensors, crank sensor, battery, alternator and timing chain and I still have this problem!

loose intake manifold bolts. Tighten them! It's sucking to much air and throwing all kinds of codes. Should take care of the problem!

2009 ltz here. Don't know what the current problem is but do know what started it. Had a small oil leak and had it fixed when I took in my car for the same problem. Mechanic cleaned throttle and replaced seal. A week or two later the car was back at it again. Found the oil had eaten up the wires to one of the rear coils and they were shorting out. Probably trying ECM next

I have the same issue with my 2013 Malibu LTZ 2.5ltr. I just replaced the ECM, and that did not fix the stalling problem. There are no codes being thrown.

Had this on my 2014 2.5. It ended up being an 02 sensor for me.
