Is Premium gas required or can you use regular gas
Typically, you can switch between premium and regular for different preferences of power, fuel mileage, price, etc. You're Lexus is strongly recommended to use premium. If premium is typically 10 cents higher per gallon and you filled up your entire 19 gallon tank you're only looking at $1.90 extra per fill up. To me, $1.90 per week or so is not worth risking performance now and reliability in the long run. Also, remember that premium burns more efficiently so you're mpg's will be slightly higher... this may come close to balancing out the $2 more you'd spend anyways.
When you put the numbers out there to show the difference to fill up, using Premium gasoline is definitely what I prefer. I believe in treating the vehicle well to extend the life of the vehicle. The less maintenance I have to endure, the happier I will be.
You do realize that Premium is a minimum of 30 cents higher than regular and 15 cents higher than mid-grade. Not sure where the 10 cents came from. Anyway, with the math it's still $5.70 more per fill up. If you are filling up twice a week then you will be spending an extra $10.40 per week which is $42-$53 per month. This may be worth it for you. Yet I find with Toyota products, toggle between mid and premium works just fine.
I am using a unleaded for 7years now on my rx350 is it ok to switch premium at this time after years using of u leaded?
Use of ethanol blended gasoline in a gasoline engine Lexus allows the use of ethanol blended gasoline where the ethanol content is up to 10%. Make sure that the ethanol blended gasoline to be used has a Research Octane Number that follows the above. This is from the owner manual, I guess it does not even said that it should use premium. It just said it can.

Guru, if your RX350 is 2011 or later, you should use 91 Octane. If it's older than 2011, 87. This is by design and you will invalidate your warranty if you use a lower octane and you have engine problems as a consequence.
Buy the best octane. Don't skimp on your engine. It's NOT worth it in the long run.
I had a 2007 Acura TL Type S. Took it to Germany 2010-2012. More times than not I had to use 87 and 91 Octane because that was all they had on the base. There was no noticeable difference in performance for me. Mind you I am just a "Regular Joe," who occasionally drove fast...under the right conditions. Such as traveling the Autobahn from Heidelberg to Miesau at cruising speeds in excess of 100 MPH. I even sustained 130 MPH going to Euro Disney. Lastly, when I had it serviced at the German Honda Dealership in Frankfurt I asked them them if using the lower octane would damage the engine. I received a resounding "No."
using a higher octane in a smaller engine that requires only "regular" fuel will make the fuel mixture too rich and will cause associated problems - always go by whats in the owners manual
As per the Lexus owner's manual. If the gasoline in your state contains Ethanol you should be using the premium 91 gasoline. On the other hand if your state does not have Ethanol in the gasoline you can use the 87. Unfortunately most states add Ethanol to their gasoline.
As of 2012, RX 350 runs regular unleaded. Prior to that, premium recommended BUT the manual says you can use regular! You can easily download the owners manuals to check if you'd like.
Hi GuruB4NJF I have a 2010RX 350 and would like to move to regular gas ie 87 octane. As per your comment i don't think this should be an issue. Correct ?

Lexus_mechanic Higher octane fuel than required does not in any way "make the fuel mixture too rich." That problem is related to the fuel/oxygen ratio.
My 2015 RX350 owner manual says "87 octane or higher". The designers write the manual. Unless new data emerges, go with the manual.
The manual specifies 87 or higher - therefore regular is OK. As a gasoline specialist however, I know that many of the major oil companies put more detergent additive in the premium. You might want to run some premium from time to time to get the extra cleaning.
I run 85 in my 2013 RX.I also live at 7000 ft. no problems noted.
The difference in price between regular and premium is 50 to 60 cents per gallon. using regular gas saves me $10.00 per tankful. Why burn your hard earned money on premium when regular works fine. Drive car responsibly, don't hot rod and save money for a nice steak dinner.(BINGO)
