Can I use body parts from an 05 to fix my 09 hatch?

Asked by Quinn Jan 19, 2018 at 11:01 AM about the 2009 Chevrolet Aveo 5 LS Hatchback FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2009 5spd had an unfortunate rendezvous with the side of a semi and now
the whole left side is pretty messed up. While it's all cosmetic I would like to
start swapping parts from donor cars as I find them. Today I came across a
2005 with similar paint and a shot transmission. The body looks similar enough
but I don't know if all of the molding screws and what-not will line up? Any help?

Go to a site like www.tascaparts.com and look op the part numbers for the various swaps you are interested in. If the part numbers are the same then the parts will interchange.

First generation Aveo's are 2002-2011, so you should be good. You can get all manner of body/fender fasteners from Napa, Fastenal, or most any auto parts store, in addition to stripping them off a donor car. It's also not that difficult to adapt mounting points if you have to, they sometimes do change between model years. The only place you appear to need body work is that left rear. A couple tips: places like "pull-a-part" or "pick-a-parts" tend to be the cheapest, you pull the part yourself, and that gives you a chance to also score all the fasteners and other tidbits you might decide you need. Regular salvage yards pull them for you and you get a body panel only and prices are higher. You can also try a local "Parts Dismantler", especially for non-metallic parts like headlight assemblies. You can buy new body panels at places like "Certifit". They sell new panels that are nearly as cheap as salvage ones, and you won't have to deal with rusted.dented used panels. Finally, buy some body shims of all sizes, you're sure to need them. Good luck!

Worked at a big ass pull it yard here in NY forever, they use Hollander interchange. Needs an update so could be wrong but it gave me Aveo 2009-2011 and Pontiac Wave on body parts. I have a 2009 manual 5 (desperately wants 6) and been watching for a spoiler and a few other things. A lot of work to have things not fit so I’m sticking to those years for now..
